Engine Dyno Technician - 54389

Basildon, Essex

Rate - £17.94 per hour - Inside IR35

AWR rate increase applies after 12 weeks - Rate will increase to £23.24 per hour

Position Description:

  • Interface with workshop and test facilities dept. to prepare engines for dyno testing; performance and emissions calibration development to homologation stage.
  • Ensure that calibration dynos are operating with representative engine hardware (i.e. ordering/receiving and updating of parts).
  • Specify and arrange installation of required instrumentation with relevant workshop groups.
  • Working knowledge of the application and delivery of measurement systems and equipment.
  • Support various controlled test on various Powertrain units.
  • Accurate collection and validation of data to prove integrity.
  • Implement, monitor and document daily check point strategy for each engine/dyno; provide quality check of the data collected.
  • Initial assessment of engine performance data (i.e. perform dyno data quality check/ Gauge R&R).
  • Liaise with supporting staff, engineers, supervisors and customers on a technical level.
  • Support implement implementation of test plans to support inter- and external-dyno team activities (e.g. providing support to durability dynos).
  • Provide support to test area for system fault diagnosis.

Skills Required:

  • Components; specific knowledge of AVL Puma Test control system and the setting up of MEI, UUT etc. an advantage.
  • Experience of Diesel Engines, a knowledge of their design.
  • Experienced in dealing with workshop environment/processes.
  • Sufficient knowledge and skills to enable first line fault diagnosis.
  • Experience of calibration tools an advantage.
  • Ability to organize mechanical repairs and investigative work.
  • Good communication skills in English language, written and oral.
  • Ability to get others on board with assigned tasks.
  • A team player who is flexible and self-motivated with a keen interest in powertrain development.
  • Familiarity with standard PC applications required and with Ford specific systems an advantage.
  • Full driving license.
  • Knowledge of Dyno cell equipment and system including engine installation components; specific knowledge of AVL Puma Test control system and the setting up of MEI, UUT etc. an advantage.
  • Sufficient knowledge and skills to enable first line fault diagnosis.
  • Experience of calibration tools.
  • Ability to organize mechanical repairs and investigative work.

Education Required:

Appropriate technical qualification or time served in recognised apprenticeship.
