Title: Engine Dyno Technician

Division: Product Development

Contract Position based in: Basildon, Essex

Engine Dyno Technician

  • Interface with workshop and test facilities dept. to prepare engines for dyno testing; performance and emissions calibration development to homologation stage
  • Ensure that calibration dynos are operating with representative engine hardware (i.e. ordering/receiving and updating of parts)
  • Specify and arrange installation of required instrumentation with relevant workshop groups
  • Working knowledge of the application and delivery of measurement systems and equipment
  • Support various controlled test on various Powertrain units
  • Accurate collection and validation of data to prove integrity
  • Implement, monitor and document daily check point strategy for each engine/dyno; provide quality check of the data collected ¿ Initial assessment of engine performance data (i.e. perform dyno data quality check/ Gauge R&R)
  • Liaise with supporting staff, engineers, supervisors and customers on a technical level
  • Support implement implementation of test plans to support inter- and external-dyno team activities (e.g. providing support to durability dynos)
  • Provide support to test area for system fault diagnosis.

Skills Required:

  • Components - specific knowledge of AVL Puma Test control system and the setting up of MEI, UUT etc. an advantage.
  • Experience of Diesel Engines, a knowledge of their design
  • Experienced in dealing with workshop environment/processes
  • Sufficient knowledge and skills to enable first line fault diagnosis
  • Experience of calibration tools an advantage
  • Ability to organize mechanical repairs and investigative work.
  • Good communication skills in English language, written and oral.
  • A team player who is flexible and self-motivated with a keen interest in powertrain development.
  • Knowledge of Dyno cell equipment and system including engine installation components; specific knowledge of AVL Puma Test control system and the setting up of MEI, UUT etc. an advantage.
  • Sufficient knowledge and skills to enable first line fault diagnosis
  • Experience of calibration tools
  • UK Driving Licence required
