This business is a niche automotive design and vehicle builder that is currently undergoing a huge period of growth, with the introduction of new product lines and clients and as a result is looking for a Direct Buyer to be responsible for a number of key direct commodity categories.
This is an exciting, new role for a Direct Buyer who has ideally worked in automotive OEM or a tier supplier, purchasing a variety of components including plastic injection mouldings, interior trim, wheels, tyres, braking systems, and other associated parts for vehicle build.
Reporting to the Senior Buyer you will Issue RFI / RFQ, supplier orderbook management, plan and raise orders against MRP / manual demand requirements, regularly update the MRP / ERP system (Epicor).
You must be able to travel to other production locations and or suppliers based within the UK or Overseas upon request as required in support of the role, as such a clean driving licence and passport are essential.
Benchmarking suppliers and make strategic decisions that delivery Quality, Cost and Delivery to support the programme requirements
Generation and execution of RFIs & RFQs
Negotiation of prices, terms and conditions, long term agreements
Using demand data to raise necessary purchase orders to support direct production and aftermarket
Identify, assess, and manage supply chain risks
Support Supplier Development / Quality initiatives
Understand manufacturing and system processes/procedures and challenge design/processes to optimise lead time and cost
Identify quality, cost, and delivery improvement opportunities, and drive them through to completion
Ensuring that material ordered are delivered on time and in full, and to the correct quality standards
To ensure communication to suppliers is of a consistently high standard
Managing Supplier performance
Performing Cost-down activities
Participate in continuous improvement activities to improve purchasing procedures and increase efficiency
To resolve discrepancy and invoice queries in line with your area of responsibility
Ensure all KPI’s are reported and updated in accordance with requirements
Ideally, we are looking for the following key qualifications, skills, and experience:
Must have previous experience of international sourcing and buying for manufactured products.
A strong understanding and experience with MRP / ERP, ideally Epicor
Ability to cope within a fast-paced SME
A strong understanding and knowledge of engineering would be ideal
A CIPS qualification or working / willingness to work towards would be beneficial
Must be computer literate, communicate accurately and effectively
Have an appreciation of wider business demands
Ability to work well with others in a team environment, providing input and feedback in a professional manner
Ability to work to tight deadlines and ability to work under pressure
Proactive and positive approach, with a desire to succeed both personally and for the business
