Job Title: Design and Development Engineer
Location: Wrexham

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitably skilled Design and Development Engineer the Research and Development team at JCB Transmissions.
Reporting to the Research and Development Manager, the successful candidate will have experience in:

  • Prototype build support and resolution of design and development issues failure investigation and analysis
  • Preparation of instrumentation for testing (speed, pressure, temperature, torque sensors)
  • Conducting tests on prototype gearboxes and axles
  • Analysis of acquired test data and interpretation of results
  • Analysis of faults and propose solutions
  • Design, build, commission and maintain test rigs
  • Propose innovative engineering solutions
  • Liaison with suppliers and customers
  • Continuously implement improvements in their area
  • Input into formal design documentation to include: DFMEA, DVPSOR, change documentation and drawings
  • Identify and implement cost reduction opportunities
  • Capable of working from engineering briefs and executing analysis/calculations
  • Writing rig control software
  • Strip and reporting of test Axles and Transmissions
  • Procurement of test rig componentry and XP consumables
  • Benchmark testing of competition and current product machines
  • Development and improvement of current electrical and hydraulic systems
  • Assist with constant improvements to existing test procedures and customer acceptance
  • Ensure effective supplier sign off of new component parts and test documentation via effective test reports

The candidate must have:

  • Degree/HNC in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience)
  • Proficient in the use of all Microsoft office applications
  • Off Highway transmission experience
  • The ability to plan and organise work schedules to meet deadlines
  • Good spoken and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate a sound grasp of engineering principles
  • Promote Health, Safety & Quality at all times
  • Awareness of HSE procedures and policies (Inc. STOP, CALL, WAIT)
  • Raising of Near Misses
  • Encouraging behaviour to drive continuous improvement
  • Sense of Urgency - Showing drive & motivation
  • Flexible and resilient with an ability to manage risks and development issues during the various stages of projects
