Design Engineer

Design Engineer - Aerospace & Defence - Permanent - Berkshire

A Design Engineer is required to join an established company with a good reputation in the Aerospace and Defence sectors. The successful Design Engineer will report directly to the Senior Design Engineer and they will be a key contributor to the design and development of complex systems employed on military and commercial aircraft safety critical systems.

The Design Engineer will operate as part of a team to design and develop Electro-Mechanical Systems within the organisation. The Design Engineer will assist with new concepts and methods of manufacture, work to required technical specifications, timescales and cost.

Responsibilities of the Design Engineer

  • Undertake detailed design work on new and existing products
  • To oversee the new products from quotation through to delivery
  • To maintain appropriate design data, design records and test information
  • To maintain standards and specifications issued by standard bodies, ie ISO
  • To assist and support the Sales Team through responding to and visiting customers
  • Create detail drawings of designs, using the CAD systems
  • Create and maintain bills of materials and outline process detail on the MRP
  • Modification of drawings on CAD in accordance with change request/approval system
  • To discuss project and design requirements with customers and suppliers as necessary

Experience and Qualifications Required for the Design Engineer

  • Mechanical Engineering (ONC/D, HNC/D, Degree or similar) is required
  • Experience in a design/manufacturing facility
  • Conversant with Creo or a similar CAD package
  • Working knowledge of DFM/DFA and a good understanding of GD&T
  • 3D CAD design and technical drawing experience required
  • Knowledge of modern manufacturing methods is required
  • Project management experience is desirable
  • MRP experience in creating reviewing and updating BOMs is desirable
  • Experience working in an engineering environment
  • The position may require occasional travel both in the UK and overseas
  • A full UK driving licence
