Customer Account Manager - West Midlands (Automotive)

Working from their head office in the West Midlands on behalf of a globally recognised group supplying components, systems and services to the automotive sector, we are seeking an experienced, dynamic and proactive Customer Account Manager to maintain and further develop customer relationships.

Reporting to the Sales Manager, this strategic position works within tier 1 automotive/OE companies (particularly JLR) and requires a hands-on and proactive account management approach where relationship management, communication and successful engagement are essential.


You will be responsible for:

- Leading the sales activity for one or more customer accounts focusing on new business/acquisition growth and profitability.

- Representing our clients chassis / braking divisions at this customer in terms of communication and relationship management.

- To be the 'voice of the customer' internally when required


In addition:


- Lead the acquisition for new and repeat business to expand the sales and profit with the customer

- Understand market pricing with the customer to remain competitive. Understand competitor activity

- Use internal reporting tools as necessary

- Identify opportunities for customer diversity and develop where suitable

- Drive new proven and available technical innovations into the customer

Commercial Negotiation and Cost Recovery

- Negotiate and communicate running changes within commercially favourable constraints

- Negotiate new and annual price negotiations within budget constraints

- Maintain raw material data records and negotiate acceptable raw material recovery

- Ensure raw material auto escalators are in place on a quarterly basis for all relevant products

- Ensure the company is not exposed to currency fluctuations on project-by-project basis

Business Processes

- Support of Business Planning/Budget Process, Maintaining of Volume Information

- Support Sales Manager in the development of an annual (five-year rolling) strategy for each customer to include acquisition, relationships, technology

- Support of appropriate business processes (Project Reporting Sales)

Relationship Management

- Maintain positive business-like relationship with key customer contacts

- Maintain records of key customer contacts to understand customer decision making timing, criteria

The KPIs for this role evolve around Sales and Profit Growth, Cost Recovery, Communication and Satisfaction.


In support of this role, you should:

- Preferably be degree level in an Engineering or Business-related subject

- Ideally have 5-years' experience in in automotive industry in a technical or commercial role

- Good negotiation skills

- Numerate with good competence in MS Excel, Word, and Power Point

- Good Communication, presentation, and social skills (externally and internally)

- Second European language would be an advantage, but not essential

This position offers a competitive salary range and and works alongside existing operations based in the Midlands and UK. Some international inter-group and customer travel will be required.
