Chief Systems Engineer - Nottinghamshire - Aerospace - Permanent

A Chief Systems Engineer is required to join the Engineering Team within a market leading innovative and large Electronic Systems company and the successful Chief Systems Engineer will report directly to the VP of Technology. This is a role in an Advanced Technology Centre in Nottinghamshire.

The Chief Systems Engineer will be responsible for all aspects of the design/development of advanced power systems used in a wide variety of Aerospace Power Converters, this role offers the successful Chief Systems Engineer the opportunity to be part of an exciting new team servicing top tier customers. The ideal Chief Systems Engineer candidate will have the potential to grow and progress within the organisation.

Chief Systems Engineer - Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Mentor and motivate all technical staff
  • Primary technical interface with customers / prospective customers
  • Strong relationship with customers, suppliers and academia and to join trade associations
  • Responsible for all quality aspect and regulatory compliance of products
  • Technical proposal editing and final approval and Chairman of all design reviews
  • Creation of high-level work packages and to seek agreements with engineering management
  • Support the engineering manager with recruitment of technical staff
  • Final approval of all qualification test plans, procedures and test results
  • Responsible for quality control checks, Engineering integrity & signatory of all design manuals
  • Technical leadership of all aspect of power converters. Electrical, mechanical, and environmental
  • Chair Person of product integrity meetings
  • Knowledge of Safety Critical industry standards such as DO-160, DO-178, DO-254 etc
  • Responsive team leader; Provide well thought out responses to engineering questions and requests
  • Providing supportive advice, coaching and mentoring technicians and junior engineers
  • Co-responsible with the engineering manager for the review of the skills matrix
  • Capable of performing any mechanical engineering task when required

Technical Skills and Experience Required for Chief Systems Engineer

  • Advanced knowledge of power converters and their use in Aerospace applications
  • Advanced knowledge of multiple topologies
  • Simulation Modelling Experience (Preferred; SABER)
  • Mathematical modelling (Preferred; MATHCAD)
  • Schematic Capture Experience (Preferred; Altium)
  • Development Testing Experience and VB/VBA Knowledge
  • Requirements Analysis skills and General Production Knowledge
  • Capable of developing as a leader as well as developing others to improve levels of performance
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a collaborative working style
  • Able to deal with conflicting demands for limited resources, removing obstacles that stand in the way
  • Thrives when working as part of a team & a clear and concise communicator of Technical Information
  • Excellent Presentation Skills and a Quality Focused Attitude
  • Strong Team Player and able to undertake occasional travel both in the UK and Overseas
