We are looking for an experienced and innovative Chief Engineer (Quality, Improvement & Strategy) who has the ability to lead the quality function within a global product development arena focusing on quality systems, processes and performance within the design and product development function of business operations.

The role of Chief Engineer (Quality, Improvement & Strategy) will be to lead all areas of quality and operational improvement within a research and development arena, looking at how processes, systems and departments interact and deliver new products within the automotive sector. This will involve communication with cross functional teams both in the UK and Asia, (internal and external) while embracing the strategic requirements and objectives to identify areas for improvement across all facets of the business.   

As Chief Engineer (Quality, Improvement & Strategy) your main responsibilities will include providing specialist quality management leadership, consultancy & support as follows:-

1) to the Head of Engineering and Quality

2) to the Advanced Product Creation (APC) team 

3) to lead all Quality Management System & ISO9001 compliance

Specific areas of focus include:-

  • All aspects of Quality strategy & engineering process development, governance & best practice

  • World Class Quality programme development & deployment

  • New Product Introduction (NPI) system & process development

  • Requirements Management system & process development (RMDV2 )

  • Engineering Sign Off (ESO), Final Data Judgement (FDJ) & Design Verification Planning (DVP) system & process development

  • ISO 26262 Functional Safety process best practice & deployment

  • Quality Management System (QMS), ISO9001 & IATF16949 compliance management

  • Quality engineering improvement opportunities to enable the successful implementation of new technology across the business

A key part of the role will be to:

  • Define and manage the strategic delivery plan for the Engineering Quality team in support of the Head of Engineering Quality, Tata Motors

  • To lead the QMS deployment & ensure compliance with ISO9001:2015

  • Develop and manage Engineering Quality resources to support the delivery of the following business    requirements:

    • Application of System Engineering processes & implementation of RMDV2 tools processes.

    • Requirements definition and associated release processes.

    • Technical and project support to the ESO team to provide accurate programme risk assessments to the business leaders.

    • Processes and toolsets to ensure conformance to ISO 26262.

    • Definition and capture of Engineering Standards, Test procedures and Design rules.

    • Transfer of global best practice engineering processes to Tata Motors.

  • Implementation of Engineering Quality processes across all areas of the business.

  • Management of Engineering Quality input across all projects.

  • Develop key relationships within the Group to facilitate knowledge transfer.

  • Lead communication with management, customers and suppliers as required.

  • Lead the generation of quality management documentation, reports and presentations.

As Chief Engineer (Quality, Improvement & Strategy) you will bring to the role:

  • Demonstrates appropriate depth of knowledge within QMS to include IATF 16949, ISO9001 & ISO26262, ideally within a product design & development or new product launch arena

  • Excellent analytical and planning skills being able to identify areas for improvement within QMS and influence cross functional and cross border teams to understand and embrace any required changes

  • Effective leadership in managing processes and procedures to meet strategic objectives

  • Capable of defining, developing, and managing a project autonomously with minimal need for support to delivery strategic plans within QMS

  • Exposure or a working knowledge of DVP, RMDV, NPI, PCDS, ESO, Requirements Management and Systems Integration would be a distinct advantage 

  • Strong problem solving and coordination skills used to deliver critical projects with time and budgetary constraints.

  • Strong communication skills having the ability to build relationships and pull together cross functional teams to ensure effective solutions are provided within all areas of Quality, PD and NPI
