Job Title: Buyer
Duration: 2 months (ongoing)
The Buyer is responsible for supplier performance with respect to their NPI (New Product Introduction), Quality, Cost, Risk and Management.
To ensure that materials are purchased at the most competitive prices worldwide, on time and to the required specifications.
Based in the Business Unit (BU) and focused upon providing a BU specific purchasing service for the BU controlled materials.
The Group Buyer takes immediate direction from the BU within a structure provided by Group Purchasing.
Internal : UK and Global Group Buyers, Purchasing Managers, Purchase Project Leads, Prototype Buyers, Global Cluster Manager, Group Purchasing Manager, Purchasing Director, Business Unit MD's , Material Controllers, Engineering Managers, Quality Managers, Supplier Development Engineers, PI Analysts
External: Suppliers, Professional Networking
Key Result Areas
Early Supplier Engagement - working within the NPI process to leverage NQCRPM at product launch
Work in conjunction with and support the Purchase Project Lead to deploy the NPI Process
Provide guidance to the Prototype Buyers through category strategy for categories responsible for
Responsible for new parts first off availability and Initial Sample Inspection Report compliance within the JCB NPI process requirement
Driving forward quality PPM improvements and PPAP/APQP compliance, supporting supplier quality clinics where appropriate
Ensure Warranty Agreements are in place where required prior to placing an order
Work alongside Supplier Development Engineers dealing with APQP, Project Readiness and supplier exit strategies
Cost reduction - achieving annual cost reduction targets
Cost management - driving improved levels of transparency focusing on Quotation Analysis Forms
Working with the global teams to understand Lowest Total Cost of Acquisition for specific categories of responsibility
Implement Long Term Agreements with assigned suppliers where appropriate
Work with the Supplier Development Engineers on VA/VE and implementation of lean tools and techniques to improve Quality, Cost and Delivery performance
Risk assessment for nominated supply chain to ensure Business Continuity
Monitor supplier financials and report any "at risk" suppliers
Lead Global Supplier Relationship Management activities for suppliers
Work with the Global Business Units and key functions to develop and deploy Global
Lead NQCRPM reviews with key suppliers
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Detailed understanding of Purchasing tools and processes including:
Cost Tracking Tools, Cost Breakdown and key elements of cost build up
Negotiation Techniques - preparation, planning and execution
Development of Contracts
Purchasing in a Manufacturing Environment
Familiar with Manufacturing Processes
An appreciation of "Lean Techniques"
Working as part of a global matrix organisation
