Title: Capital Equipment Category Buyer - 36681

Contract Position based at: Whitley

Rate: up to £30.59 per hour LTD rate (which equals c£23.59 per hour PAYE rate) - INSIDE IR35

Position Description:

A Category Buyer is required to lead the procurement of specified categories within the Capital Equipment team in Indirect Procurement (IP).

Current core categories include procurement machinery, sub-contract services for manufacturing processes and installation services e.g. chemical blacking, laser cutting.

The key stakeholder is Manufacturing Engineering (ME) and within this function the Manufacturing Engineering Technology Centre (METC). Over and above the core role, the Buyer will need to support peak and troughs in other category areas especially in relation procuring equipment for new vehicle programs.

As Capital Equipment Category Buyer, the role involves robust sourcing in-line with the IP 8-Step Category Management Process and will be primarily focused on sourcing, contract negotiation and contract implementation and management. This role is fundamental in supporting our key stakeholder ME and their 'New Endings' vision.

The aim is for ME to become more self-sufficient and bring in-house design, manufacture, installation and commissioning responsibility. In support of this role the buyer will need to work collaboratively with the stakeholder to identify the correct sourcing packages and qualifying suitable suppliers, in order to achieve maximum commercial leverage and ultimately optimise the overall cost.

For both aspects of this role the buyer will be responsible for leading the sourcing approach, developing a negotiation strategy and delivering a robust, commercial contract which can be effectively contract managed through to completion. Ideally the role will require a level of automotive manufacturing technical experience combined with high level of commercial acumen The role reports to the Purchasing Manager for Paint Trim & Final, Machinery in IP. Indirect Procurement is a sub-function within Global Purchasing.

Skills Required:

  • Experience in negotiating supplier contracts (pricing and terms and conditions) and strong stakeholder/supplier management.
  • An understanding of key cost-drivers, ability to analyse cost and use benchmarking data to ensure value for money
  • A background in automotive and/or machinery procurement in alternate industry

  • An individual with previous experience in a manufacturing environment, with technical understanding of component cost drivers

Experience Required:

  • Previous experience in a procurement role in a manufacturing environment
