Capability and Development Engineer (MRO) – Kent/Canterbury Area

A Capability and Development Engineer is required for an Aerospace, Defence and Aviation engineering organisation who specialise within instrumentation and electromechanical components within this sector. They are looking for a Capability and Development Engineer who will be responsible for efficiently and effectively delivering operations of the Engineering department under the direction of the Engineering Manager. The Capability and Development Engineer will be working with aircraft systems such as aircraft windings, electrical power systems, hydraulic components, landing gear and aviation safety equipment.

Capability and Development Engineer - Responsibilities

  • Ensure all projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Support the control for Environmental, Health, Safety and Quality.
  • Maintaining compliance with all industry standard regulations.
  • Complete development of new engineering capability for the Machining and Plating area.
  • Provide technical support to the Hydraulic, Landing Gear, Machining and Plating workshops.
  • Interface with Engineering for New Product Introduction including hydraulic testing.
  • Capability development of Hydraulic & mechanical systems, machining & plating processes.
  • Undertake technical evaluation of hydraulic, pneumatic & electro/mechanical components.
  • Deliver engineering solutions and Design/build test equipment meeting standards.
  • Produce design documentation, drawings, and calculations.
  • Offer technical backup, in the event of equipment breakdown and fault finding.
  • Offer support to 5 Why and 8D investigations to identify and resolve quality issues.
  • Focus on continual development and implementation of lean management processes.
  • Engage with suppliers and contractors to ensure projects are delivered on time and budget.
  • Plan and maintain projects in an efficient, cost-effective manner.
  • Ensure delivery to meet / exceed customer service expectations.
  • Adhere to industry standards, QA rules and regulations.

Qualifications & Skills Required for the Capability and Development Engineer

  • Educated within Engineering and HNC/HND qualification
  • Qualification in Aeronautical Engineering (desirable).
  • Excellent analytical, fault finding and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organisational and planning abilities.
  • Team player – capable of working with others.
  • Excellent interpersonal and people management skills.
  •  Ambitious, self-motivated, Innovative, and enthusiastic
  • Cost conscious and able to work to budget.
  • Proficient use of computer (CAD, Microsoft applications etc)
  • Experience working with hydraulics and mechanical assemblies (desirable)
  • Experience of building and designing test rigs (desirable).
  • Experience of reading and interpreting technical drawings and documents
  • experience using 2D CAD package (desirable)
  • Experience of managing small to medium size projects.
  • Experience working within aerospace/MRO industry (desirable)

Security Clearance may be required for this role due to the nature of the industry.
