Our client, a precision engineering specialist, is looking to recruit at Design and Development Engineer to design and develop foundation brake products.

Key Responsibilities of the Design and Development Engineer:

  • Developing product requirements and specifications to meet market requirements
  • Working with Design Engineers to ensure that the components designed are technically sound, robust, and cost effective
  • Applying and developing design guidelines to ensure consistent application within the sector
  • Liaising with Design and FEA engineers to ensure new products meet analytical targets
  • Investigating and resolving performance issues
  • Leading the delivery of the engineering elements of APQP, including DFMEA, Design Review, DVP&R where projects demand
  • Compiling concise specifications for test, development and validation of components and assemblies
  • Developing robust standards and specifications to ensure the effective implementation of production processes
  • Monitoring the total cost of components and assemblies in order to ensure the most cost-effective production route is selected
  • Supporting the New Product Introduction process through liaison with other departments
  • Providing technical support to sales, manufacturing, quality and suppliers.
  • Supporting and advising customers by telephone and face-to-face meetings

Key Qualifications and Skills required for the Design and Development Engineer

  • HNC/HND/Degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering
  • Knowledge complex CNC machined components from billet
  • Understanding of automotive applications and other aspects of vehicle design
  • Commercial awareness
  • Motivated and flexible attitude
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to supervise work of other department members when necessary
  • Experience of automotive brakes/chassis engineering/development
  • Motorsport experience desirable
  • Solidworks 3D CAD experience
  • Working knowledge of D-FMEA, P-FMEA, DVP&R & APQP
