The opportunity

A rare opportunity for an experienced manager or high performing team leader with experience within the Warehousing Automation Manufacturing or Logistics space based in a commutable distance of Milton Keynes to join our client, who are an industry leading, innovative and global company who are a market leader in their field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide customer satisfaction whilst enhancing the reputation of the company
  • Manage resource capacity plan for peak and non-peak operations
  • Manage daily review meeting process
  • Organise / assist in breakdown maintenance of site automation as required
  • Organise Planned Preventative Maintenance of automation equipment
  • Manage all training requirements
  • Develop both staff and resources
  • Be an effective team leader focused on team building
  • Manage agreed timeframes to complete reactive repairs
  • Interact with on-site and off-site management
  • Provide daily, weekly, monthly, summary and detailed reports covering commercial and technical activities
  • Improve the service levels
  • Manage the provision of quality support and maintenance services
  • Manage and coordinate the daily activities of all personnel
  • Demonstrate a commitment to Continuous Improvement Process
  • Development of automation SOPs
  • Ensure integrity of all on-site administration
  • Deputise for the Site Operations Manager

Principle accountability within this Automation Engineering Manager role include:

Towards partners

  • Develop engineering team members by actively managing their development needs through the appraisal/objective setting process. Review, progress & support development requirements
  • Support and assist in developing training for team members, ensuring upskilling of team across engineering functions
  • Personal and team compliance commitments
  • Assurance with all aspects of statutory compliance
  • Appreciation of cultural diversity

Customer facing

  • Advise and counsel the implementation of engineering initiatives
  • Ensure system availability targets are met
  • Ensure all site engineering KPI's are met

Profit in mind

  • Continuous development of KPI measures on tasks undertaken by the engineering management team
  • To challenge existing processes and procedures to develop a "Best practice" policy for all areas of engineering resulting in more efficient processes and potential cost implications

  • Resource capacity plan
  • Optimum Engineer utilisation measured in Key CMMs
  • Problem resolution and reporting
  • Appraisal and PPDR process completeness on time
  • Achieve all site KPI targets
  • Achieve all SLA targets
  • PPM on target
  • Deliver to budget

Candidate Profile

  • Understand and adhere to all company/ customer legislative and H&S procedures
  • Good planning and organisational skills
  • Physically fit and able to work at height

Required Experience

  • Extensive and time-served experience in a automation manufacturing or logistics or similar
  • Proven experience in leading an engineering team
  • Good PC skills working with MS Office
  • Strong understanding of CMMS (preferably Key)

  • Experience of operational working of automated solutions
  • Knowledge of PLCs, ideally Siemens S7
  • Single point of failure analysis
  • Root cause analysis
  • Efficient resource planning
  • Financial & Commercial experience including basic budget management and reporting
  • Cost benefit analysis

Qualifications

  • Preferably hold a degree in an engineering discipline
  • Minimum qualifications of an BTEC ONC/HNC or City and Guilds in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • IOSH Managing Safely qualification preferably NEBOSH
  • Recognised indentured apprenticeship in an engineering discipline
  • Computer Literate, MS Office/CMMS systems
  • A relevant IEE wiring qualification (17th Edition)
