Title: Attribute Team Leader (Thermal Management)

Division: Vehicle Engineering

Contract Position based at: Gaydon

Rate: Up to £25.96 per hour

Position Description:

Thermal Management requirements primarily include the delivery of all airflow for powertrain, driveline and brake cooling, and management of the engine bay and underfloor thermal environment to ensure acceptable conditions are maintained for all systems and components - for conventional ICE and EV / electrified vehicles. All targets must be met for trailer towing, sand and track driving in high ambient conditions.

The team is also responsible for thermal performance of infotainment systems and associated cooling solutions. Development and verification methods used within Thermal include CFD and heat management CAE tools as well as facility-based and in-market vehicle testing (Great Britain / Europe and UAE).

The attribute team leader will be motivated to pursue project and technical interaction with Vehicle engineering, Design (styling) and all related business areas with the expectation to proactively report-out thermal issues and opportunities at every business level when required.

The PAT leader will be expected to be a proactive, technically experienced person with great presentation skills in order to resolve thermal issues throughout the business. The candidate will also be expected to fully integrate within the rest of the team (c.90 people). The role is varied and allows the chosen candidate to demonstrate their technical and programme management skills and ability to resolve issues with a customer mind-set.

Skills Required:

  • Applicants should ideally have some experience of testing in climatic, aerodynamic or acoustic wind tunnels and analysing results.
  • Applicants should ideally have experience of conducting or interpreting CFD / CAE analyses
  • Applicants should ideally have experience of presenting to / working with relevant product design functions, especially Exterior Trim, Exhaust and Powertrain Cooling departments

Experience Required:

Automotive experience with demonstrable project management experience.

Ability to mentor other team members should be demonstrable.


Experience Preferred:

Technical knowledge of thermal / cooling systems / airflow is essential and general 'vehicle' engineering experience is essential.

Also, knowledge of EV or electrified vehicle cooling systems is advantageous.

Mentoring skills should be demonstrated.

Excellent team working and team leadership skills are essential

Good project management skills are essential

Good presentation skills are essential

Education Preferred:

Technical Degree required

Additional Information:

An increasing focus is being placed on 'Thermal Energy Management' and, in future, the candidate will be expected to liaise with other team members in order to reduce overall energy usage due to the thermal systems (radiator / cooling drag, fan energy usage, climate cool-down performance) etc.
