Location: Bristol

An Analytical Chemist is required for an international manufacturer and distributor of activated carbon products and services. As a leading global supplier, they provide activated carbon to a wide and diverse range of customers and industry sectors. Due to outstanding quality, value, and customer service, they need to support demand and growth with the services of an onsite Analytical Chemist. Working closely with the Managing Director, technical sales, and process teams you will be responsible for running a small but well-equipped laboratory. Your work will involve assisting the sales team with technical enquiries / applications and suitability of activated carbon products and working with production staff on process development and product validation.

To be considered for this Analytical Chemist position you must have / or be.

  • Currently working as an Analytical Chemist, Laboratory Manager or Process Manager working on applications involving powders, granules, or pellets with a good understanding of adsorption / absorption, molecular size, porosity, and surface area.
  • A good understanding of process filter applications which will have been gained working within water, pharmaceuticals, food, drinks & beverages, chemicals, precious metal recovery, air & gas, purification, cleansing and filtration products and services.
  • Experience of preparing and analysing samples from various sources (internal or external) and interpreting data to provide information that will assist with sales, product / process efficiency and new product development.
  • Confident and commercially astute, always looking to develop new techniques and work in collaboration with staff, European partners (agents / distributors), suppliers and customers to deliver excellent customer service.
  • A degree in Chemistry with experience across a range of analytical techniques and instrumentation particularly, gas chromatography, liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, and spectroscopy to investigate chemical compositions, porosity, and surface area to validate new and existing products and processes.
  • A self-starter, resilient with the ability to hit the ground running and able to demonstrate the commercial and value adding benefits of a well-run laboratory both internally and externally to all stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal, written and presentation, commercially minded and comfortable assisting sales staff with proof of concept and technical product sales. Happy to take responsibility and ownership of tasks and processes and ensure they are completed successfully and on time.
