Business Development Manager - Defence

In support of a growing and firmly established SME organisation within the UK and European Defence and Security sectors designing, manufacturing and supplying Autonomous Sensor Systems,  we are seeking a new Business Development Manager to provide strategic planning, positioning and generating new business in the defence, security, C-UAS, emergency response and similar markets, focussing primarily on their Sensor Systems.

With a high value investment into R&D, my client is seeing considerable growth in product demand for use in critical domains such as defence, surveillance, security, emergency response and counter-UAS, including ground-based solutions and products mounted on manned and autonomous vehicles. With capabilities in motor design and control, mechanics, electronics, embedded software, AI/ML and sensor integration, plus systems engineering, the Business Development Manager will join the team and provide strategic planning, positioning and generating new business in the defence, security, C-UAS, emergency response and similar markets.  Focussing primarily on their Sensor Systems they will take the lead in business development on a consultative and solution sales basis.

Ideally with exposure from within the defence, security and military sectors and with a relating technical and military application exposure, this growth focused role will hold key responsibilities:

-    Maintain understanding of key market trends & programmes and position OV on these.

-    Identify new business opportunities including new markets, new customers, new partners and new products.

-    Deliver sales targets (revenue and GM).

-    Formulating, agreeing and then executing business strategies for markets and customers.

-    Customer relationship management - build enduring relationships with customers and users gauging their needs and developing proposals to address these.

-    Attending conferences and events to build relationships with customers and partners.

-    Revenue forecasting.

-    Competitive assessments.

-    Defining PTW (Price To Win) and bid strategy.

-    Lead bid processes and approvals.

-    Ensure the CRM system is up-to-date at all times

Personal Profile

The Business Development Manager should have/be:

-    Significant experience with surveillance & reconnaissance in the security and / or defence environments and in operational use of sensor systems.

-    Business development experience gained within a relevant industry.

-    Strong personal gravitas.

-    Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

-    Commercially astute.

-    Team player with a start-up mentality - we muck in and win together.

-    Keen to understand the big picture and the fine details.

-    Ideally be degree qualified or higher - preferably in a technical discipline (Engineering, Maths etc).

-    Have worked within the military and understand the environment.
