The Opportunity: Senior Buyer

You'll play a critical role in ensuring the success of complex engineering and manufacturing programmes. Reporting to a Senior Director, you'll oversee procurement activities from strategic sourcing to supplier performance management.

What You'll Do

  • Translate planning and project needs into clear purchasing requirements.
  • Identify, evaluate, and engage suppliers to meet demanding quality and delivery standards.
  • Take the lead on subcontractor management-negotiating costs, timelines, and technical support.
  • Stay ahead of potential delays or issues through proactive risk management.
  • Support engineering teams with supplier alignment and delivery performance.
  • Ensure all supplier activities meet project and commercial expectations.

What You'll Bring

  • Proven track record in dynamic, high-value procurement roles (5+ years).
  • Strong commercial instincts and negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of military standards, subcontractor compliance, and commercial frameworks.
  • CIPS certification (essential).
  • Experience with importing/exporting.
  • Understanding of fabrication, electro-mechanical assembly, and tooling processes.
  • Strong multitasking skills with attention to detail and resilience under pressure.
  • Full UK driving licence.

What You Will Do:

• Support the development of warehousing and logistics solutions to enhance CPU/HPU performance through meticulous data analysis and process optimisation.
• Utilise knowledge of in-plant logistics processes, lineside delivery methods, storage media, kitting strategies, goods to person and automated delivery systems.
• Manage project elements effectively, ensuring safety, sustainability, quality, and cost efficiency are prioritised.
• Collaborate cross-functionally to optimise end-to-end processes and flow solutions, employing Value Stream maps and/or simulation where necessary.

Based within a well-established, privately owned manufacturing and engineering business, you'll play a pivotal role in sourcing materials and services that meet the evolving demands of the operations. What You'll Be Doing:

Procurement Management

  • Lead the sourcing, negotiation, and procurement of materials and components both in the UK and internationally (including key markets such as China).
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, and management teams to obtain competitive quotes for materials and subcontracted services.
  • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure timely delivery and consistent quality.
  • Working with engineering teams on NPD and NPI

Cost Management

  • Conduct supplier reviews and performance evaluations to ensure ongoing compliance and excellence.

Process Improvement

  • Contribute to the refinement of procurement processes and procedures to boost efficiency and accuracy.
  • Use MRP systems to manage purchasing activities and streamline operations.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with production, technical, quality, and finance teams to align purchasing strategies with broader business goals.

Compliance & Documentation
