Mechanical Services Design Engineer

Location: Guernsey

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • You’ll be at the heart of project delivery, taking designs from concept through to completion:
  • Produce detailed mechanical designs including calculations, specifications, and technical reports aligned with industry standards (British Standards, CIBSE, CiPHE).
  • Create 2D and 3D designs using industry-leading tools, including CAD and BIM (AutoCAD, Revit).
  • Design and coordinate key building systems such as:
  • Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC)
  • Hot and cold-water services
  • Above-ground drainage
  • Air source and ground source heat pumps (ASHP/GSHP)
  • Building Management Systems (BMS)
  • Lead project elements—agreeing scope, deliverables, and timelines with your Line Manager.
  • Support and guide trainee and graduate engineers, helping deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Conduct site visits including surveys, inspections, and progress reviews, producing clear and professional reports.
  • Prepare cost estimates, tender documentation, and review contractor submissions and variations.
  • Ensure all work complies with Health & Safety legislation, company QA processes, and industry best practice.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver fully coordinated designs.
  • Stay ahead of the curve by keeping up with new technologies and maintaining continuous professional development (CPD).

Qualifications Required?

  • Degree (2:1 or above) in Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
  • NVQ Level 3 in Plumbing & Domestic Heating (City & Guilds).
  • NVQ Level 3 in HVAC, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning (City & Guilds).

Degree qualified or equivalent professional experience

Desirable:

  • Good working knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and electrical systems
  • Experience managing preventative maintenance systems and breakdown response
  • Ability to lead a team while remaining operationally involved
  • Strong organisational and communication skills

Desirable:

  • HNC or equivalent in Engineering
  • 18th Edition and/or IOSH certification
  • Experience within heavy industry, foundry, or similar environments

  • Wiring of chambers
  • Testing of chambers using provided instructions
