HV Battery Engineer

HV Battery Engineer Our client who design and manufacture complex high technology mechatronic products and systems for the automotive/motorsport industry are looking for an experienced HV Battery Engineer who can come on board and provides indepth technical knowledge and guidance of vehicle HV battery (PHEV/BEV) systems across diverse vehicle projects. You will support and ensure achievement of business objectives and technical development, delivering on time and within budget and take responsibility for the development and maintenance of the HV battery components to support development from concept to production. Part of the role will be to investigate HV battery (and components) related issues, both in the vehicle development cycle and also in the field. The main scope of the role will be development of the HV battery to support vehicle validation including the vehicle interface and interaction. Job Description: * Responsible for management of components and system suppliers; * Formulate and maintain robust component/system delivery plans; * Conduct system FMEA's where applicable or review of such documentation; * Support pre-production vehicle builds and feedback learning into the design process; * Plan and execute all related component releases for production; * Plan and execute component validation activities through simulation, laboratory experiments and on-vehicle tests in various environments world wide; * Manage component change, including feasibility, cost and timing evaluations; * Investigate in-field issues, identification of root causes and introduction of remedial actions; * Expedite Engineering Sign-Off (ESO) for all components; * Follow company Product Development Processes; * Complete required technical documentation including specification and test reports; * Undertake EV components, system and vehicle development and problem-solving within tight timescales; * Required to work within the boundaries of ISO26262 (with support); * Responsible for the collation and presentation of relevant data inorder to support functional /cross-functional meetings. * Develop relationships with counterparts in appropriate internal functions and VW organisations, and provide relevant guidance to suppliers. Job Requirements: * Degree-qualified in either Electronic or Electrical Engineering, Automotive or Systems; * Proven experience in a similar role, working on HV vehicles (although onsite training will need to be completed); * Understanding of vehicle HV battery technology including techniques used in the construction and limitations of assembly; * An understanding of battery thermal, electrical & mechanical design limitations to be considered and functions within the battery SW to deal with this limitations; * Understanding of cell monitoring and battery management system control * Has an appreciation of the interaction of other vehicle systems on the battery e.g. HVAC, crash safety. * Awareness of recyclability and ELV requirements with regards to HV batteries * Ideally aware of UN Transport certification requirements which may need to be met; * Understanding of the following specifications: ECE - R100, FMVSS305, ISO6469, ISO12405; * Hands on experience of developing control algorithms for EV/HEV automotive applications, including electric motor controls; * Knowledge or familiarity of, Software C-code, MATLAB, Simulink, Dspace, CAN and flexray communication protocols and toolchain; * Experience of process from launch to production; * Dynamic and proactive self-starter able to work with minimum of supervision; * Flexible (able to work extra hours and to travel abroad as and when required); * Strong influencing skills and communication, with a commitment to building positive relationships with other functions, and Group as an outward facing expert * Working with high voltage systems; * Good organisational skills * Commercial awareness, ability to identify the bigger picture. * Good test and analysis skills; * Good written and verbal communication skills; * Proficiency in German language would be an advantage; * A team player with the additional ability to work alone unsupervised; * Highly-motivated and capable of working on concurrent activities.

Component Engineer

Component Engineer Our client, an established automotive tier 1 business are looking for a Component Engineer that has an extensive knowledge of plastic injection moulding and tooling that can work with suppliers and customer to drive the business forward. The Component Engineer will be responsible for one or multiple harness related component families: Take in charge the totality of the development, from supplier consultation until customer approval for new development, catalogue parts and/or mass production parts as assigned. Provide technical support, manage technical subjects with suppliers and develop own expertise. Main Responsibilities:- For new developments, provide to the purchasing team, the necessary technical elements to proceed with quotation requests and participate in the selection of the expert supplier. Organise & lead technical meetings, design reviews and mock ups with the customers, suppliers and internally during development & mass production, in line with technical, planning and quality, requirements. Travel regularly to customer and supplier sites and occasionally to the different sites of the group to support management of component development, design changes feasibility, costs & planning. Analyse risks and put in place the related action plans and validation plans. Drive the suppliers to update the related customer drawings, user manuals & PSW documents. Use of 2D/3D design tools occasionally required to support this feedback. Obtain the customer homologation of the component. Know the customer specifications and analyse pro-actively the impact of any changes. Monitor technology evolution; identify VAVE and/or inter-project synergies. Provide technical support to internal and customer teams. The company is based in Swansea and successful candidates will be able to stay there for a couple of days a week with the rest being spent onsite at clients and suppliers

Resident Engineer

A Resident Engineer is needed for one of our Tier 1 automotive clients to be the "eyes and ears" at the customer site. Therefore, intercultural skills, good communication, people skills, and willingness to travel locally (UK) are required to be successful. Key technical customer interface on the design and support to engineering team. Support regular meetings and maintain open issues reports and obtain closure to issues. Assist with the definition of customer requirements and assure team understand them in line with customer expectations. Coordinate/communicate technical issues with customer and provide feedback to internal engineering team. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external customers. Support customer change management process for design changes. Perform systems validation of our products. Assist with the resolution of system integration issues. Test the product at customer bench and in customer vehicles. Write detailed defect reports of any anomalies found to allow effective problem resolution. Act as a "first pass filter" to identify duplicate defects. SW Skills needed. Development in C / C++, modeling languages (MATLAB tool chain or similar). Experience on microcontroller (Freescale, ST, PIC, NEC). Experience on Design tooling (Configuration Management, requirement tools, High Level design tools, electronic lab tooling, embedded software tooling - emulator, debugger, ... - ) Software Quality Assurance process, experience in the development process and software validation. Automotive SPICE, CMMI. Background in automotive, in-vehicle communications, vehicle networking. Electronics Engineer

Our client, an automotive consultancy, are looking for a subject mater expert that will be responsible for automotive electronic design principles and that can clearly commutate and review vehicle module hardware design & detecting error states. They will then work with component teams and suppliers to ensure design robustness and compliances to client standards & are delivered robustly prior to a given design freeze. It is also essential for the SME to actively keep themselves up to date with technical knowledge and to share learning with their peers. Area of Responsibility Act as technical subject matter expert for a team of component owners developing electronic components. This involves facilitating their understanding and application of the requirements in the customer Conduct design reviews using customer Electronics Design guidelines ensuring the correct design requirements have been met by the supplier. This will include environmental, packaging, interfaces and design for manufacture factors. To be able to manage, and administrate their own workload and learning. To be able to review schematics, PCB layouts, technical data sheets and design calculation. Understanding of high volume, high reliability of PCB manufacture and assembly processes. Knowledge Must have a degree in electronics or alternative technical qualifications Must have experience of microcontroller based electronics projects (especially automotive) A knowledge of automotive vehicle networks Experience of developing high volume products from concept to production Key practitioner in problem solving techniques (eg:six-sigma) Understanding of DFMEA, PFMEA Must have strong, applied skills in automotive electronic hardware design.
