There aren’t many things better in life than cake, except for cake that is for a worthwhile cause…

The crème de la crème of Jonathan Lee bakers have been busy making mouth-watering cakes to sell at the much-anticipated Alzheimer’s Society Cupcake Day, which took place yesterday. As always, our talented bakers did not fail to impress. There was a plethora of delicious signature bakes to choose from, without a soggy bottom in sight!

'Guess how many' cupcakes

Throughout the day the team took part in a number of fundraising activities including ‘a dress down’ day and ‘guess how many’ cupcakes competition.

After days of intense guess-work and interesting mathematical equations, the winner was revealed…

A huge congratulations goes to Paula - whose guess of 1258 was just TWO cupcakes off the correct number of 1260. Paula kindly donated her winnings to the Alzheimer Society. Thanks Paula.

Cupcake bake off winner

The time had arrived…

Our head judge and MD, David Hale, had the honour (if not unenviable job) of crowning one baker the overall cake champion for 2018.  And it was a very tough decision to make; the look and taste of all entries were superb!

After much deliberation (you could cut the tension with a knife) a winner was announced:

“The lemon cupcakes had the slight edge for me. The intricacy of the icing on the top of the cake combined with the superb taste, the delicate texture and just the right amount of lemon zest resulted in an all-round beautiful cupcake. Very moreish!” said David.

And so there we have it. Our star baker; Theresa Durham claimed the well-respected ‘best baker’ badge of honour.

A big thank-you to the whole Jonathan Lee Recruitment team for participating and raising money for this worthwhile cause.

“It’s wonderful that our team take the time and effort to get together for these events, year after year” said David. And we wholeheartedly agree.

Alzheimer’s Society is the UK’s leading dementia charity. They provide information and support, fund research and create lasting change for people affected by dementia.

The difference the Cupcake Day makes

Dementia devastates lives. In the UK, someone develops dementia every three minutes, and there is currently no cure. But together we will beat it, dementia will not win.

Hosting a Cupcake Day allows you to enjoy some tasty treats with your workmates, friends and family knowing you are helping Alzhiemer's Society to find new treatments and, ultimately, a cure for dementia. Since 2016, dedicated cupcakers have raised £1.4 million.
