Helping young engineers

Jonathan Lee Recruitment together with the IMechE organised and ran three lectures in December, February and March with the IMechE Automotive Young Members, with the aim of helping young engineers get on the career ladder. Simon Roberts, Regional Manager West Midlands, spoke at all three events, which covered the topics 'How to kick-start your career in a recession', 'How to get chartered' plus a more informal look at the recruitment market and working with an agency.

The three events attracted around 60 young engineers, all interested in a career in the automotive industry. Simon explains the importance of engaging with young people:

"The IMechE Automotive Young Members has traditionally played a crucial role in encouraging young people to follow a career in the UK automotive sector and Jonathan Lee Recruitment is delighted to continue to support its work. With automotive currently really struggling due to the recession, young engineers need extra help and advice on progressing their careers. The majority of students graduating this year will have never experienced a recession. These lectures have hopefully helped a few more on their way and given them some ideas on how to survive the present market conditions."
