An inspirational day

Over 200 guests gathered at Hogarth’s Hotel in Solihull to celebrate Jonathan Lee Recruitment’s 30th anniversary.

The event, which was enhanced by the glorious sunshine, was designed to motivate and inspire. Among the guests was Virginia George, the client who facilitated Jonathan Lee’s first placement in 1978. She and others heard from a line-up of truly moving speakers which included the Falklands war veteran, Simon Weston, Ultimo lingerie company founder, Michelle Mone and former footballer, Geoff Thomas. All agreed that the speakers had shared more than their triumphant stories but also generously, a part of themselves.

Geoff Thomas left the event with a cheque for £2,300 raised by guests for his charity which funds the development and delivery of new treatments for cancer and leukaemia patients. The former England international player started the charity after being treated for leukaemia in 2004.

Another key moment in the day was when Jonathan Lee described how he and his wife Lindi founded the company in a back bedroom before moving to their first and less than glamorous office. That was 30 years ago and now the company has its stunning headquarters in Stourbridge and a further four offices covering the north, east and the south of the country. Among the 115 employees is the very first person to have joined Jonathan and Lindi, Jenny akes who completes her 30th year this ctober.

Jonathan used the 30th anniversary lunch to call on schools and colleges to inspire young people by making subjects such as maths and science more appealing and dynamic.

“Over the decades there have been so many exciting projects including the launch of the first Russian satellite, Sputnik, man taking his first steps on the moon and the aviation icon, Concorde. These projects certainly inspired young people to look to careers in engineering and manufacturing in the hope of being a part of these and similar historic and momentous events,” said Jonathan Lee.

And he added: “There are just as many exciting projects happening today such as the development of clean technology and space tourism; we just need to tell young people about them in a bid to encourage them to consider a future in engineering and manufacturing. We need to give inspiration to children.”
