Several of our staff have been with the business over 15 years.  Here we have spoken to some of them (old and new), about their backgrounds, what they enjoy about their roles and their experiences of working at Jonathan Lee Recruitment.

 

Ray Greenman,   Senior Consultant – Automotive, Product Development
Ray’s early career started with being sponsored through an Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering whilst working in the aerospace and off-shore exploration industries.  The majority of his career however was spent in the automotive industry in powertrain/engine design and development.

 

Since joining in 2005, Ray has covered a number of roles including Account Manager, Consultant and Managing Consultant.  Ray now uses his technical background and in-depth understanding of industry to deliver recruitment services for Product Development specialists in major Automotive OEMs, Tier 1 suppliers and consultancies. 

 

Ray works with some of our highest profile clients and lists one of his biggest successes as working with TATA Motors European Technical Centre, working in partnership with the CEO at the birth of the centre in 2005, recruiting the majority of the senior engineering staff.  His ability to deliver across a range of highly technical engineering and leadership roles was a deciding factor in the appointment of Jonathan Lee Recruitment as TMETC’s Master Vendor for recruitment services from 2011 to the present day.

 

One of the biggest challenges Ray faces is a shortage of quality candidates and the availability of skills, forcing him to look well beyond the usual geographical boundaries.

James Tilley, Recruitment Consultant
James joined Jonathan Lee Recruitment as a Recruiter in 2013 following an early career in account management for an industrial/engineering supplier.

 

Not having experience in recruitment has not held James back; in his first six weeks with the business he had successfully placed three candidates!    It hasn’t been all plain-sailing though and James admits that getting to know the recruitment industry and the fast paced environment was a steep learning curve, he has had to understand how to both celebrate the successes and learn from the disappointment of rejected offers.

 

James told us that the real enjoyment in his role comes from having the opportunity to speak to such a diverse range of people every day and constantly build industry knowledge.  He also loves the culture here at Jonathan Lee Recruitment; a great feeling of involvement, commitment and recognition.  He gets to work with really motivating colleagues who help and support him when needed.   James achieved promotion to Recruitment Consultant in 2015.

 

So Why Would James Recommend A Career At Jonathan Lee Recruitment?

Jason Cole, Client Relationship Manager
Jason joined Jonathan Lee Recruitment in 2008 as a consultant recruiting for key aerospace and automotive clients and within two years was promoted to Senior Consultant and later to Lead Consultant.  He is now responsible for business development and client relations. 


Before joining Jonathan Lee Recruitment, Jason’s early career was in curtain-walling design and then in project management with Jaguar Land Rover.  As there are a number of people at Jonathan Lee Recruitment with similar industry backgrounds to Jason, he told us that the move made perfect sense to him.  Who better to understand the industry we recruit to than someone who has worked within it?

 

Jason enjoys building strong working relationships with so many people both internally and externally and uses his project management skills from his previous roles working with multiple clients on multiple roles, to deliver excellent service.

 

Jason acknowledges that recruitment is not always easy; working in a competitive market with a diminishing candidate pool and with clients who increasingly need candidates who have multiple talents.  When asked what he thinks the recipe for success is, Jason told us that looking around the office, the breadth of knowledge, combined with a positive and proactive approach to working with our clients, it’s no surprise that the business is successful.

 

So What Advice Would Jason Give You?

Rachel Shilton, Senior Recruiter – Automotive B2B
Rachel joined Jonathan Lee Recruitment in 1998 as an Office Junior.  She had been studying her A Levels and joined us straight from college.   During her time with the business, Rachel has progressed her career through from Office Junior to Recruitment Assistant and Senior Recruitment Assistant supporting Consultants and Managing Consultants on several of our recruitment teams.

 

Her vast knowledge of our business systems, processes and clients saw her successful transition from an administration role to a fee-earning role in 2014, using all her previous knowledge and people skills to deliver a record number of contract placements in her first six months.

 

When it comes to learning and development opportunities, Rachel tells us that she has received the support she needed early in her career.  The business supported her through a HNC in Business in the first 12 months after joining and she later went on to complete a CIPD First Certificate in HR in 2007.

 

Rachel enjoyed the challenges she faced as a Recruitment Assistant explaining us the role was varied and interesting.  She had to learn to keep many plates spinning which was difficult, but this was a challenge she enjoyed.  Her role afforded her the opportunity of working with different Consultants and their clients; helping to manage key accounts and, as a Senior Recruitment Assistant, Rachel helped to train and develop new and experienced members of staff.

 

The one thing Rachel takes away with her every day is the excellent ethic of teamwork that the Company has, both in her individual team and the Company as a whole.  Rachel also told us that the presence of our Chairman, Jonathan Lee is absolutely invaluable and unique and it’s definitely something that makes Rachel proud to work here.

 

So What Advice Would Rachel Give You?
Anyone who is positive, who wants to be successful and will support others to do the same, will flourish at Jonathan Lee Recruitment.  It doesn’t matter whether you come from an industry or recruitment background – it’s these qualities and a great attitude that matter.

 

Neil Cayley, Senior Consultant – Aerospace, Defence & Aviation
Neil joined us as a Consultant in 2012 following a 15 year career in the RAF as a Senior Engineer.  Educated through the Defence College of Aeronautical Engineering over 5 years, he attained a range of technical qualifications. 

 

During his RAF career he progressed through the ranks leading multi-disciplined teams of skilled engineers in maintenance, repair and overhaul of various aircraft including fast jets and wide bodied transportation.

 

Challenges

Neil told us that the transition to a role in recruitment was helped by the extremely supportive team environment which enabled him to pick up the key skills required quickly.  One of his biggest early challenges was learning to organise himself and manage his time effectively outside of the structure of the forces.

 

One of his worries when he left the RAF was that the camaraderie and sense of being part of a close team would be lost, but he has found this again with JLR, having been warmly welcomed to the team and receiving an incredible amount of support and training.

 

Neil told us that finding the right match of candidate and client is how he counts success, but he is also proud to have successfully brought in new clients and to have seen these grow; knowing that he personally built and nurtured the relationship to mutual benefit has been one of the most satisfying rewards to date.   Neil was promoted to Lead Consultant in 2016.

 

So What Advice Would Neil Give You?
The top requirement to work here is the right attitude.  It is a pleasure to wake up and look forward to coming to work – and for Neil that is an extremely important factor.
