Summary of Department and Role


TMETC design is part of the Global Tata design network. The UK facility is leading the development of new vehicle designs for Tata Motors and assisting the parent company with the development of a coherent design language across product ranges.


The studio engineering role will contribute to the development and ongoing improvement of our world class UK design operation.


Main Activities & Tasks
* Provide studio engineering support from initial concept design through manufacturing feasibility to prototype development and into volume production and vehicle launch
* Knowledge required in the areas of studio engineering and styling support. Class A surfacing, BIW and Trim (interior and exterior) design and development
* Analysing daily package and feasibility issues with Design, Clay/Digital modelling and engineering teams and proposing world-class solutions
* Attending surface and design reviews to highlight and clarify areas of concern
* Support the VCIM (Vehicle concepts integration meeting) process
* Participation in aerodynamic reviews
* Preparing vehicle overlays, comparison sections, data sheets, screen shots and powerpoints to present at design reviews
* Validating obscuration sections, mirror and vision checks
* Verifying data and distributing between engineering, modelling, manufacturing and suppliers
* Assist core engineering team with the development of the Master Sections Book
* Attending meetings with manufactures of both interior and exterior model stacks to resolve on-going issues in a time-effective way
* Checking incoming data to confirm feasibility and design intent
* Co-ordination and leadership of multiple cross-functional teams and studio engineers to resolve issues
* Leadership of issues management process and co-ordination of Design feasibility check process

The above list of duties is not exhaustive and is subject to change. The post holder may be required to undertake other duties within the scope and grading of the post.

Qualifications
* Desirable - Degree qualified or similar qualification
* Desirable - Working towards chartered status or already chartered
* Essential - Formal CATIA training evidence

Knowledge

* Essential - Demonstrates depth of knowledge in a relevant technical speciality
* Essential - Vehicle Set Up / Packaging Experience
* Essential - Vehicle Legislation Requirements
* Essential - Technical Feasibility of Automotive Trim Systems

* Essential - Generates new ideas with appropriate action plans. Demonstrates feasibility of ideas
* Essential - Capable of managing a project element with support from more senior staff when necessary
* Essential - Effective team member making improvements, processes and providing high customer service
* Essential - Assist with the administration duties to support Lead Engineer for effective performance of the team and consistently achieves forecast performance objectives
* Essential - Ability to inspire team to strive for improvements and high customer service
Experience
* Essential - A minimum of five years automotive or other relevant industry experience is essential
