Title: Software Engineer

Contract Position based at: Gaydon

Position Description:

Suspension System Tuning (SST) leads the design, development and delivery of those Chassis systems that significantly contribute to vehicle dynamics performance whilst delivering customer comfort systems. SST are responsible for active suspension systems, which include Active Roll Control, Adaptive Damping and Air Suspension, and passive suspension systems, such as dampers, roll bars and springs. The vision of the SST team is to increase the use of Virtual Engineering in order to lead vehicle or system programmes with concept simulation, modelling expertise and tools from research through to the delivery phase to JOB#1. This role is essential in enabling SST to 'shift left' and make greater use of virtual models and techniques earlier in the development cycle. The successful candidate will be responsible for the creation and delivery of MATLAB Applications that improve the efficiency and robustness of SST's virtual engineering.

Key responsibilities:

  • Develop, deploy and maintain MATLAB Applications that will allow SST engineers to;
  • Post-process physical and virtual test data to generate Non-Geometric Data (NGD) sheets, assess results against prescribed pass/fail criteria or generate metrics/plots for further engineering analysis.
  • Conduct CAE simulations, including batch runs to sweep through multiple parameter sets
  • Perform component and system feasibility/sizing studies at an early stage of vehicle programme development using fundamental 1-D equations.
  • Automate other SST engineering processes in line with LEAN engineering principles.
  • Write user guides and provide guidance to the wider SST team to ensure that the MATLAB Applications are used effectively.
  • Support the definition of MATLAB scripting/object-orientated programming best practice and guide the other members of the SST Development Team to ensure conformance.
  • Develop ad-hoc MATLAB scripts and tools to support emerging, urgent business needs

Skills Required:


Experience using MATLAB, specifically development of scripts and/or applications

Project engineering skills (timing plans, work instructions).

Relevant engineering degree.

Experience Required:

Experience developing applications using Object-Orientated Programming techniques.

  • Ability to prioritise their work load.
  • Good communicator with the ability to communicate complex ideas.
  • Effective team player who supports team members.
  • Capable of working under own initiative but prepared to document findings and make recommendations

Experience Preferred:

Ability to deliver operational plans in a highly demanding environment.

  • Good knowledge of Chassis systems.
  • Knowledge of Vehicle Dynamics, NVH, Off Road Capability, Durability and Reliability attributes.
  • Good technical report writing and presentation skills.
