Project Management Engineer - Automotive

A Project Management Engineer is required with broad experience of vehicle development and a clear understanding the development process for a position based in Bedfordshire.

Our client, a global automotive OEM based in Bedfordshire requires a Project Management Engineer to:

  • Manage delivery of the development program against the master schedule
  • Maintain understanding and visibility of the Vehicle development status against its performance metrics (quality cost delivery KPI's), and communicate to line management and Assistant Chief Vehicle Engineer accordingly taking recovery actions where necessary
  • Lead the preparation for Milestone Meetings, working proactively and cross functionally with all stakeholders to ensure a good understanding of the development status and prepare recovery plans where necessary
  • To coordinate global activities between Japan and UK
  • Promote and support all necessary cross functional activities to ensure closure of key concerns raised through production trials, safe launch, test and evaluation
  • Promote and co-ordinate quality and customer satisfaction improvement activities.
  • Promote and co-ordinate cost reduction activities to deliver vehicle TdC targets

The Project Management Engineer should have the following skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related subject
  • Engineering background with broad experience of vehicle development and a clear understanding the development process
  • Strong analytical skills to be able to review and challenge technical proposals
  • A good understanding of the global stakeholders and strong experience of stakeholder management (to include R&D, Manufacturing, Product Planning, Program Director, Total Customer Satisfaction and Purchasing)
  • Independent and proactive with strong communication and influencing skills
  • Strong attention to detail with clear and precise reporting skills and the ability to present confidently to senior management.
  • Self-motivation - proactively identifying what needs to be done rather than waiting to be told.
  • Proficient in MS Excel and PowerPoint, ability to interrogate and analyse data; familiarity with vehicle BOM and interpretation of vehicle specification (Spec List, Spec Notice), use and interrogation of Concern Database (QBASE) and cost Database (CDW)
  • Ability to add value to vehicle development by proposing and judging quality, satisfaction and cost reduction ideas
  • Experience of vehicle development project management
  • Experience of D&D budget management and sourcing
  • Experience of digital development, physical development and technical concern analysis
