Title: Perceived Quality Engineer

Perceived Quality is the perception of quality by a customer, based on sensory interaction and emotional connection.

Perceived Quality is one of the 18 attributes in the JLR business. Unlike most attributes, PQ is part of the Body Engineering organisation rather than Vehicle Engineering, however, as an attribute there are many links and a close working relationship with Vehicle Engineering. Perceived Quality is the Level 1 attribute and incorporates the following Level 2 attributes. We work to be the voice of the customer to exceed their perception of quality.

This opportunity is to join a small team within perceived quality. This role will support the delivery of Perceived Quality Surface Materials, benchmarking competitor vehicles to identifying key materials used to generate targets for JLR's new vehicles. This is a great chance to build up our knowledge of competitors vehicles. The candidate will need a good knowledge of materials, the candidate should be capable of conduct Premiumness research & trend analysis, material strategy planning to meet customer requirements in various vehicle segment. Capable of writing material specification. Be able to demonstrate excellent communication, project management skills & team working. Creation and maintenance of material documents. Ensuring the data is up to date and reflects the required levels of maturity at any given point in time by liaising with other areas within Body Engineering to ensure compatibility issues are highlighted.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Competitor vehicle benchmarking to identifying key materials used to generate targets for JLR's new vehicles. Data input into the PQ material database detailed specific materials used in these vehicles.
  • Define vehicle requirements for the 'Surface Materials ingredients elements of the attribute
  • Development of standards for 'Materials ingredients of the attribute.
  • Lead 'Quality Maturation process' which includes liaison with cross business functions.
  • Support the material ingredient element of the Panel Charts for vehicle lines at each gateway.
  • Support program Design Colour & Material Reviews.
  • Work closely with Engineering CoC team's in defining solutions to provide best in class Perceived Quality surface materials deployment.
  • Deliver projects utilising project management techniques to ensure the delivery and achievement of planned outcomes to support the achievement of strategic business objectives
  • Track and measure all live projects and report Project metrics to senior management and the area
  • Use wider business experience to guide and help others to identify potential alternative solutions to problems occurring on their projects
  • Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested


Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Previous experience in a similar role with track record of delivery
  • Methodical detailed approach to work context
  • Analytical skills to identify how one issue can impact on another and put in place the required interventions through support or from own knowledge base
  • Ability to present complex data & issues to a varied audience
  • Experience of Problem Resolution using structured approaches
  • Ability to manage risks and issues

  • Relevant degree or equivalent experience preferred

  • Desirable previous experience in the following roles:
  • Experience in customer research, Engineering Quality Role , Design colour & materials, Interior component manufacturing


Essential:
