Development Engineer - Melksham

We have an extremely interesting role for a Mechanical Development Engineer, for a world leading sub-systems supplier to the Rail industry, producing braking, driver assistance and auxiliary power systems at their facility in Melksham Wiltshire, to support essential mechatronic development work.

The Mechanical Development Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Helping to define requirements for new mechatronic brake control equipment.
  • Proposing tests to show that equipment meets the requirements.
  • Generating specific test specifications.
  • Ensuring laboratory facilities and test specimens are available and preparing justifications for new equipment or dealing with external suppliers to set up various supplies of services.
  • Undertaking tests as defined above.
  • Reporting on tests, evaluating any failures of prototype equipment and working with Design Department to propose changes to improve design.



Professional experience and qualifications:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of failure investigations, fault finding and identification of robust solutions.
  • Experience in a development testing role: reliability testing, including use of vibration, environmental, life testing and other validation techniques.
  • Experience in an industrial engineering role



Additional Skills:

  • Experience in implementing diagnostic functionality within embedded software.
  • Travel to customer sites to capture requirements.
  • Co-operation with business partners to incorporate cutting edge algorithms into existing embedded software.



Key Indicators:

  • Engineering programme delivery adherence.
  • Meeting of requirements through acceptance testing.
  • Requirements demonstrated via formal traceability tool (ie MKS Integrity).



Benefits:

  • Salary - £30,000 to £40,000 dependent upon experience
