Mechanical Fitter - Permanent - Doncaster

A number of opportunities have arisen for Mechanical Fitters for an expanding Rail Refurbishment company of high-end railway components - axles and wheelsets for high-speed transit locomotives, passenger trains, trams and underground trains and be based at their Doncaster facility.

Purpose of the position:
Based in a production engineering environment undertaking work associated with the overhaul of rail bogies and their components. The Mechanical Fitters will be responsible for the assembly, fitting, dismantling and overhaul of wheelsets, rail bogies and their components. You will use overhead cranes to load and unload transport, and move around production, parts, frames and bogies of up to 20 tons in weight.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assembly, fitting, dismantling and overhaul of rail bogies and its components.
  • Use of workshop plant and equipment.
  • Use of a range of tooling appropriate to each task.
  • Working to, and achieving, set targets.
  • Maintain and improving the quality of the product undergoing overhaul.
  • Accurate completion of production and quality documentation.
  • Engaging in Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Able to work on a double day shift.



Professional experience and/or qualifications:
Essential:

  • Apprentice trained, or NVQ Level 3 or 2, in a mechanical discipline.
  • Experience of working in a production engineering environment, undertaking fitting and assembly work (e.g. HGV, bus, rail, aerospace and power industries).
  • Experience using power and hand tools such as impact wrenches and torque wrenches.
  • Experience of using measuring equipment.
  • Understanding and awareness of Health and Safety, and safe working practices.



Desirable:

  • Rail industry overhaul / engineering experience.
