Assembly Technology Manager - Auto - Coventry - Upto £68K + Car/Bonus/Bens

Are you an experienced Assembly Technology Manager who has specified the manufacturing processes and equipment for transmission systems, drive units, hybrid technology or electrical/mechanical assemblies? If yes, this opportunity may be for you!!

Our client a leading automotive manufacturer is seeking a talented Assembly Technology Manager to be responsible for the development and introduction of new and modified processes and facilities associated with new model introductions and model year changes for hybrid and duel fuel vehicles.

The Assembly Technology Manager has responsibility for the leadership of their team, delivery of departmental objectives and the development of technology within the manufacturing processes involved with vehicle electrification. Key objective of this critical role is to develop a best in class Assembly processes for our Electrification propulsion (Modules, Battery Packs and Electric Drive Units (EDUs)) and to implement facilities that robustly deliver that strategy.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the strategic development and implementation of Assembly Process equipment for either Electric Drive Units (EDUs) or Module / Battery Packs
  • Robust process planning including build simulations, FMEA and virtual build events
  • Development of assembly processes and methodologies for robust assembly equipment and practices.
  • Preparation of tender specifications and evaluation of supplier quotations.
  • Verification of assembly process facilities at vendor premises for buy-off .
  • Development and monitoring of design and installation project timing plans.
  • Achievement of equipment capability targets including OEE, MTTR and MTBF.
  • Commissioning of assembly production facilities and setting of parameters to ensure quality targets are met.
  • Manage technical issues (CCAR's) effectively and escalate where appropriate.
  • Work closely with the product design teams to ensure component design feasibility and assembly process robustness are in line with an effective Assembly test strategy.
  • Lead development of departmental standards, work instructions and procedures in line BOM's and SOP's.
  • Input to factory layout with the creation of assembly facility layouts in accordance with lean manufacturing.
  • Liaising with facility and equipment suppliers, production engineers and the Product Design team to drive cost per unit and productivity improvements throughout the planning and delivery phases of a project.
  • Management and control of all Assembly & Test related documentation, including but not limited to, CE certification, equipment layouts, hand tool drawings and maintenance manuals.

Skills, experience and qualifications required:

  • Ability to lead a team of engineers to meet the objectives of the department within a QS9001 environment.
  • The role requires the applicant to have a suitable qualification in an engineering, mathematics or science based subject with leadership experience as a Production, Manufacturing, and Assembly Leader / engineer.
  • Expertise in the specification, delivery, installation and launch of Assembly Production facilities, preferably in an automotive, transmission or powertrain environment, particularly in the field of Electrification, Battery technology, E motors or Powertrain / transmission
  • Experience of making decisions based on analysing acquired data and using SPC, process capability gained in an automotive production with the ability to create PFMEAs.
  • The role requires the need for international travel, both within Europe and outside, of varying duration's occasionally up to several weeks as and when required.
