Position Description:
The role of a Driving Dynamics Analyst is to develop Ride, Steering, Handling, Stability and Deceleration Performance to meet customer attribute targets, utilising virtual tools, models and methods.

This requires assessing status of these models versus the programme objective targets and identifying optimal tuning solutions to address gaps to target. This will typically involve tuning many aspects of the suspension system and requires total integration with the equivalent physical tuning activities in the later stages of a programme. Status reporting at key gateways is also a requirement. These models take the form of both multi-body models and parametric models, used alongside locally developed Excel and Matlab tools and Driving Simulator.

Part of the Analyst`s role is also to perform correlation checks between these models and physical test data to rapidly identify error states either in the models or on the physical prototypes. This role requires close collaboration with the Driving Dynamics PAT (Programme Attribute Team) Leader for the specific vehicle programme and also with representatives from the physical tuning teams. The primary responsibility is to deliver the project on-time and to target, whilst also truly embedding the use of virtual techniques in guiding the physical development of the vehicle.

You will be expected to:

  • Be responsible for delivering virtual attribute status for the Driving Dynamics attribute on specific vehicle programmes, at all key project gateways.
  • Be responsible for providing tuning direction and gap-closing actions for specific vehicle programmes, using the virtual vehicle models and our standard metrics. This activity is planned and prioritised by the Driving Dynamics PAT (Programme Attribute Team) leader for each project.
  • Be responsible for supporting specific projects to develop new tools, methods and metrics across the Driving Dynamics team.
  • Undertake any other work as directed by your line manager in connection with the role, as may be requested from time to time.


Alongside programme delivery there will be a requirement to support the team`s continuous tools and methods development activity and efficiency improvement projects. This is secondary to programme delivery, but is key to achieving greater reliance on virtual engineering in the future.

Skills Required:

3 KEY SKILLS

  1. A sound understanding of Vehicle Dynamics fundamentals. Excellent team working, organisation and communication skills. Applicants are expected to be very self-motivated and demonstrate the ability to identify and carry out tasks independently.
  2. Knowledge of full vehicle modelling, simulation techniques and correlation methods against real-world data.
  3. Software knowledge to ideally include: SIMPACK, CarMaker, Matlab and Excel (training will be offered for key tools).


Experience Required:
Proven successful delivery of engineering projects, as part of a team, which meet target in terms of timing, performance and quality.
A full UK Driving Licence.
