Control Engineer - FMCG - Slough - up to £36 per hour

An opportunity has arisen for a Control / Automation Engineer to work as part of the Project Team for this food manufacturer based in Slough. As Control Engineer you will be accountable for supporting sections of the overall project solution, within defined boundaries agreed with the Associate.

The role scope includes, designing, specifying expectations, managing supplying control system integrators & electrical installation firms safely.
The role requires close co-operation with manufacturing teams across operations, quality, reliability, planning and other engineering disciplines and is an integral part of the electrical engineering community.
Correct use of company project filing systems and standard documentation is expected when progressing the works, and prompt data management is a pre-requisite.

Technical Competency:
Has a good understanding of electrical and machine safety legislation and obligations that relate the work being undertaken.
Competent to be validated in the necessary Safe System of Work protocols, including becoming qualified to Level 1 Electrical systems.
Can propose a viable design solution for sections of the overall project scope, using sound engineering experience.
Can use PLC programming software to specify, critique and create machine plc programs, ideally in Rockwell, and Modicon platforms.
Can accurately assess the electrical requirements of a design and translate this into a bill of materials with preferred items and suppliers for each element.
Can accurately write and assess the user requirements for projects, creating clear project documentation.
Using company templates to create control system functional design specifications to the correct commercial standard.
Manages the site arrangements for contracted electrical works, including the segregation standards, adequacy of the task risk assessments and method statements.
Has a thorough knowledge of electrical control system design methodology and supports a project to match these expectations as applied to both packaging and process equipment. This includes running routine design, safety and progress reviews.
Has experience to inspect electrical installation work to ensure it meets EU regulations, industry standards, following the contracted design.
Able to manage both factory acceptance and site acceptance processes at a detailed level, ensuring snagging items are followed through. Ensures the necessary validation and test documentation is generated and filed correctly for the project.

Business Competency:
Has a good level of verbal and written communication skills and able to use standard Microsoft Office software.
Strong numeracy skills, specifically in two areas:
* Able to forecast project work budget costs & can refine the detail to give monthly progress reports and projections.
* Able to complete engineering calculations for new designs to show it is a suitable solution
Able to navigate standard packages for financial processes, specifically Ebuy to raise and manage purchase orders, and GuiSAP to review spend and allocated project budgets.
Can understand and apply the project delivery process to any given work, ensuring the review stage-gates are met
Sound judgement of vendor competency & able to advise on preferred suppliers for any given work package.
Strong interpersonal skills and can represent the engineering dept. at cross functional meetings when discussing project details etc.

Qualifications / Experience:
Degree in an applicable engineering discipline (Electrical, Electronic) & minimum 6 years practical experience in delivering plc control system and IT engineering projects in a hygienic environment (food & bev, FMCG, pharma, etc.)
Or
HND/HNC in Electronic Engineering & minimum 10 years practical experience in delivering engineering projects in a hygienic environment (food, FMCG, pharma, etc.)
Has taken a key technical role in delivering electrical projects in excess of £1m within the last 3 years.
Has worked in UK or similar cultural environment for minimum 3 years.
Formal project management qualifications preferable, but not essential.
