General CV Writing Points
- When writing your CV, try to find the best quantifiable phrases to describe your experiences and achievements. Use facts and figures such as 'increased the turnover of the company from £50m to £75m in six months' rather than 'improved the turnover'.
- Quantify any successes, and try to avoid using words such as 'liaised', 'coordinated', and 'administered', they do not communicate level of involvement. Try to use action verbs, but bear in mind that strong verbs are better used selectively for more impact.
- Try to avoid using technical jargon throughout the CV, as it is likely a non-technical person will read your CV at some point.
- Avoid self-opinion; aim to include facts and evidence.
- Check for any spelling or grammatical errors within the text, whether it makes sense and whether it reads well. Get someone else to check it as well.
