LDV is now owned by GAZ International who are a subsidiary company of Russian automotive giant GAZ Group. ast year GAZ produced 179,000 vehicles producing a turnover of £1.9 billion. The objective is to become one of the top commercial vehicle manufacturers in the world through a programme of global partnerships, acquisitions and licensing agreements.
GAZ Group is already one of the strongest commercial vehicle company’s in the world and has the strength and financial backing to further develop it’s strategic goals.
They are the seventh largest Commercial Vehicle manufacturer in the world. DV will become the show piece of this division complementing the automotive plant in Gorky.
GAZ Group Board has approved a 10-year plan for LDV as a standalone business. In addition start of production of Maxus in Russia for the Russian market will bring additional benefits. The plan recognises the need to provide cash support to LDV until profitability and cash breakeven is achieved, targeted by the end of 2007. As such an investment of £30 million has been put into to finance the business with an additional £30 million to invest in the Birmingham production facility.
Location & People
LDV's MAXUS production facility is based in Birmingham England, just 2 minutes from junction 6 of the M6 motorway. They have already recruited a new Sales Team and are now working to strengthen the Marketing, Quality, Commercial Functions, HR & Training, Manufacturing and Finance departments. They have recruited Commercial and Sales Teams, based in territory, to develop Sales networks in France, Spain, Belgium and The Netherlands. They plan to extend this network into Germany and Italy by 2008.
