Contractor Motivators

Overview
At present, most people think contractors are motivated mainly by rate, there is little thought given to providing structured and interesting work. Jonathan Lee Recruitment wanted to investigate what motivates contractors, is it pay rates or are there other important factors. By understanding this we can work with our clients to provide more fulfilling contracts.

This survey, produced by Kevin Harris, one of our senior consultant who is currently working towards a Post Graduate Diploma in HR Management.

Summary of key findings
The findings show that although financial reward is still a key motivator so is the need for achievement, recognition and the development of skills. Surprisingly the need to feel part of a team as factored highly, going against the assumption that contract workers prefer to work independently and on a sole project and with power featuring one of the least motivating factors.

Interestingly over 55% of you are motivated by achieving or surpassing your objectives, and that the over 51% of you felt the most relevant satisfaction points was to acquire difficult or specialist skills.
