Whats behind automotive cockpit research.

Posted by: Mark Jones 13 Jul 15 - 12:32PM  | Automotive

Jonathan Lee Recruitment’s Automotive Manufacturing Consultant, Jon Bryan, has been asked to support Dr Des Doran of the University of Sussex on his research into modularity, specifically the ‘Automotive Cockpit Module’.

Jon, who has a background in Automotive Assembly says "The research will involve a workshop where a number of industry professionals will come together & discuss the key decisions in relation to modularity"

Dr Des Doran who is Course Director for the MSc Global Supply Chain and Logistics Management expands further by saying;

‘I have published a number of papers on the implications of modularity for Supply Chain Management and have also explored modular education. I also take part in a service modularity workshop held in various parts of Europe each year and engage with other academics regarding the development of modular understanding and application. One thing that strikes me is that there has been very little research which explores the links between a number of key decision areas relating to modularity’:

  1. Operations Strategy - what are the key drivers for adopting modularity
  2. How do the above OS decisions influence the Design process for modules and how is this different from the non-modular or integrated approach?
  3. The SCM implications of adopting modular solutions, and, finally
  4. How the above influences the actual day to day operations of the OEM.

If anyone has been involved in ‘Cockpit Module’ design, development or manufacture, and would like to support the research, please contact Dr Des Doran or Jon Bryan through their LinkedIn accounts.
