So how are we doing after The Farnborough Air Show 2014?

1 Sep 14 - 9:20AM  | Aerospace

The Farnborough Air Show 2014 has been hailed a great success by aerospace industry bodies and colleagues, with an estimated generation of deals and orders worth over $115.5bn confirmed. During the Air Show, Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg also announced an extra £154 million investment for the UK Aerospace Technology Institute. This is part of the government’s £2bn investment in Civil Aerospace R&D to secure 100,000 skilled jobs and long term growth in the sector. It marks a poignant time for the industry, confirming the opportunities and long term ambition of the sector.

But what does it mean for the Aerospace & Defence team at Jonathan Lee Recruitment?

Jonathan Lee Recruitment exhibited at the Farnborough Air Show in July this year in partnership with the Midlands Aerospace Alliance on their excellent stand. Attending this global event provided a real opportunity to not only meet and network with clients and candidates, but also see the latest developments in aircraft and component technology, along with participating in a variety of sub-events.

“In order to recruit engineers within the aerospace or defence sectors, it is crucial to know everything about the industry itself. About the aircraft, safety improvements, the materials and component parts that are being used to build new models and most of all – the technology standing behind it all” said Matthew Heath, Managing Consultant from Jonathan Lee Recruitment’s Aerospace and Defence team.

“To provide successful recruitment we need to know what an engineer should be capable of to succeed in their new position.  It is essential that we understand what skills make them most valuable as an employee. That is why an event like the Farnborough Air Show is so crucial for us. We want to know what we are recruiting for.”

Probably the most prestigious Air Show in the world, the international attendance in itself continues to be overwhelming.  This combines with the ongoing positive business activity and a real intent to support the global demand for civil build rates in particular. The Air Show allowed organisations of all sizes to showcase their services, establish new global connections across businesses, governments and academia as well as identify potential solutions for the future.

Jonathan Lee Recruitment’s attendance was warmly received and generated a range of positive and specific opportunities.  With recruitment demand within the sector continuing to grow significantly, Jonathan Lee Recruitment are working in partnership with many organisations to find qualified and suitable engineering and commercial personnel.

“It was a great opportunity to attend the event and tell the industry what we do. We had meetings with international businesses that created promising and deliverable opportunities moving forward. While the current skills shortage of engineers poses challenges for the sector, clients are aware that we can be trusted to source only the best people. Our presence at The Farnborough Air Show has proved to be a great success” claims Neil Cayley from Jonathan Lee Recruitment’s Aerospace & Defence team.

So what now?

The Farnborough Air Show 2014 maybe over but the hard work has only just begun. With an estimated global demand for 27,000 new passenger aircraft by 2030 and the emerging markets driving military aircraft production, the sector is developing a vast number of opportunities.  For Jonathan Lee Recruitment, now (and as always) is the time to deliver only the best candidates our clients.
