Making the Most of Your Masters

Posted by: Mark Jones 26 Nov 15 - 5:19PM  | Recruitment

Studying for a Masters degree can be intense, meaning that it can be difficult to set time aside to map out your career plan and think about what you can do beyond your studies to help you stand out and secure a fulfilling career.

Jonathan Lee Recruitment is always delighted to have the opportunity to support young birminghamtalent and to help the next generation of professionals to choose and secure the best career opportunities in the future.  This month, Sarah Davies, from Jonathan Lee Recruitment, delivered a presentation to 30 Masters students at the University of Birmingham on ‘Making the Most of Your Masters’ as part of the university’s autumn Postgraduate Careers Network events programme. The workshop provided insight into how the recruitment industry functions, what employers are looking for, techniques for seeking work and culminated in a CV workshop.

Sarah said “Having a careers programme with both the depth and relevance of this one is a credit to the careers team at Birmingham University and hopefully a huge benefit to the participants.”

The programme offered pointers on how to prepare for the job market in terms of CV writing, using job boards and other resources and also helping them to understand what recruitment consultancies do and how such companies can be beneficial to their success in securing a fantastic post-graduate role.

Sarah also discussed ways that the students can make their CVs stand out in a market that sometimes seems saturated with post-graduates.  Sarah added “I really enjoyed meeting and engaging with the students and gaining some understanding of their concerns and fears. It was a great opportunity to impart advice and provide guidance!”
