IMechE lecture demonstrates aerodynamics with Harrier Jump Jet

Posted by: Katherine Garratt 21 Feb 17 - 10:48AM  | Engineering
IMechEAs sponsor of the IMechE Coventry Automotive lecture programme, team members from Jonathan Lee Recruitment recently attended the event; Aerodynamics of a 2017 Formula One Car, held at Coventry University and presented by Ivor Annetts, Project Team Leader at TotalSim Ltd.

The very popular lecture saw over 300 students and industry professionals attend the event from a variety of sectors to learn more about the F1 car. Ivor Annetts used CFD analysis of the PERRINN 2017 car to detail the key aerodynamic features of this new generation of F1 cars.

Jessica Williams and James Tilley from Jonathan Lee attended the event and commented: “There was an excellent turn out and we got to meet a variety of students and industry professionals. It's fantastic to see the lengths the organisers go to, to inspire and demonstrate their knowledge. As part of this lecture, a Harrier Jump Jet was brought in for attendees to see and apply the aerodynamics points that were discussed during the lecture. It was a pleasure to attend and support the IMechE Coventry Automotive lecture programme once again.”

The IMechE lectures provide an excellent opportunity and platform for engineers of today and the future to meet, learn and discuss various engineering topics whilst constructing their own network of contacts from all fields of expertise.

The IMechE lectures are free of charge and open to members and non-members to attend.

The next lecture, taking place today, is entitled Developing the Unthrottled Petrol Engine - The IC Engine of the Future and will be presented by Dr. Dan Merritt, Inventor & Director from Pure Burn Engines Ltd.

The presentation with discuss PureBurn technology, a unique design of cylinder head for a spark ignition petrol (gasoline) engine which allows it to operate unthrottled and have better fuel efficiency than diesel (and so lower CO2), and also to produce negligible NOx up to mid-power.
