Members of the Jonathan Lee Recruitment team attended a recent IET/MIA launch event which took place Wednesday 20th January at the IET HQ, Savoy Place, London.

The prestigious launch event showcased the MIA and IET Horizontal Innovation film (CLICK HERE TO VIEW https://tv.theiet.org/EmbedPlayer.html?id=7935 ) featuring MIA members whose innovative motorsport technology has been successfully transferred into other high performance sectors.

There were six case studies showcased at the event supplied by:

Williams Advanced Engineering, Aerofoil & Sainsburys - Williams Advanced Engineering uses F1 derived technology to develop energy efficient performance in multiple sectors.

Greater Manchester Neonatal Transport Team at Saint Mary’s Hospital Manchester & Race Technology - Effects of transferring critically ill babies between hospitals were investigated using innovative Race Technology equipment.

KW Special Projects & Industrial Inkjet Printers - KW Special Projects worked to build a lightweight composite structure for the industrial inkjet sector, reducing the size and structure of the printer by utilising their knowledge from the motorsport industry.

Forward Composites & Hybrid Air Vehicles - The Airlander uses the latest technology and carbon composite materials to create a revolutionary surveillance aircraft with ground-breaking capabilities

Ricardo and General Dynamics - The Foxhound remains a powerful example of how innovative motorsport expertise can deliver cutting-edge solutions into parallel sectors.

Prodrive & Land Rover Ben Ainslie Racing (BAR) - Prodrive was announced as a Technical Partner to Land Rover BAR, Britain’s entry for the 35th America’s Cup to help the team develop electrical, electronic and hydraulic control systems.

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Motorsport Industry Association (MIA) used the event to join forces and address the current lack of widespread exploitation of horizontal innovation in the business technology community.

Innovation in the UK

In the coming months, the IET and MIA will explore the opportunities for innovation within the UK business technology community. Paul Branton, Business Development Manager at Jonathan Lee Recruitment commented on the launch event at IET London: “This showcase is the first of many initiatives to come in 2016 including a new joint innovation programme which will unlock funding and support and will open to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), with proposals formed upon the use of wholly or mostly pre-existing technology. It is great to see leading industry bodies like IET and MIA continuing to drive progress and recognition of the UK’s engineering capabilities.”
