Commercial vehicle manufacturers and operators need urgent plans in place if they are to meet the challenges set by the recently announced clean air zones in 5 UK cities, according to Jonathan Lee Recruitment. The engineering and manufacturing recruitment specialist predicts that due to rapid changes to emissions and the clean air requirements for major urban areas in the UK, the industry will see a significant rise in demand for
specialists in emissions retrofit technologies as well as for the engineering experts required to support continued investment in alternative fuelled vehicles.

Associate director Henry Noteman explains: “We have seen a rapid increase in demand for people with specialist skills that can help businesses transition existing vehicles as well as support innovation around clean technologies and alternative fuels. This trend is both an opportunity and a threat for businesses as balancing investment with potential costs will require a long-term view. Clean air, connectivity, safety – there are a lot of technology drivers that are shifting the types of people that the commercial vehicle sector needs and we are actively working on long-term planning to ensure the UK players in this market have the right people in place.”
