Building your own car?

Posted by: Tom Webb-Skinner 31 May 13 - 10:04AM  | Automotive

Looking for a new car? Have you considered building your own?

No, probably not. In fact.... almost definitely not. If you were going to though, what would you build? I don't know but I'd guess it probably wouldn't something akin to a VW Polo or a Honda Jazz but would it be as daring as these?

This is actually a great story - essentially, this chap wanted an F1 car... so he built it!

"Very few individuals will ever get to drive anything as special as a Formula 1 car, but one enterprising Brit is doing his best to make that dream come true by building one himself. Kevin Thomas, from Brighton, is slowly but surely putting together his own Formula 1-inspired racer in his shed near Brighton, from bits he's begged, borrowed or blagged."

Not your thing? Want something different but not a big F1 enthusiastic? (Chances are if you are building your own car you may well be, but just in case!) Then how about this?

"The lowest roadworthy car measures 45.2 cm (17.79 in) from the ground to highest part of the car and is called "Mirai". It was created by students and teachers of The Automobile Engineering Course of Okayama Sanyo High School in Asakuchi, Japan, on 15 November 2010. "Mirai" means 'future' in Japanese."

Or... you could just buy one!
