Imagineering celebrates its tenth year in style

In August Simon Roberts, Regional Manager West Midlands, attended the Imagineering Fair as a volunteer to work on the IET stand. The fair, which is part of the Country Festival at Stoneleigh Park and supported by Advantage West Midlands, marked the 10th anniversary of the Imagineering scheme. Over 20 major engineering and manufacturing organisations took part, including Balfour Beatty, The National Grid and Jaguar Land Rover.

"It was great to see engineering professionals from across the industry come together to create such a fun and interesting event," commented Simon. “In particular it was good to see so many young engineers, apprentices and graduates playing an active part and being able to demonstrate what an interesting, challenging and diverse career engineering can be.”

The Imagineering Fair consists of stands with fun, interactive projects for young people, with the aim of attracting the next generation into engineering. For example, Jaguar Land Rover brought along remote control cars to try out, while Severn Trent Water showed youngsters where our tap water comes from. Kids were provided with ‘passports’ to have stamped as they made their way around the fair.

Simon continued: “All the companies present, many of which are clients of Jonathan Lee Recruitment, have realised that this type of showcase event can dramatically help the current shortfall of skilled and talented engineers that are so important to the future prosperity of UK plc. It was a great day out, my own children really enjoyed it and I am sure Imagineering will continue to grow and play an important part in ensuring some of our brightest talent take up a career in engineering.”
