The Company
This is a Prime Contractor for a range of military vehicles that
have become the vehicles of choice for the UK Armed Forces. In
addition these vehicles based on a proven design have been used
worldwide by a range of Armed Forces in varied multi-task roles
and provide an extremely adaptable platform that can be
configured into a wide range of support functions.
The mission of this business as the Prime Contractor is to
deliver entire vehicle programmes, that will include spares,
through life support and upgrades.
This is an extremely successful business supported by a group of
highly regarded defence and engineering companies that offer the
best solutions in defence vehicle integration, engineering and
ballistic protection.
The Role
The purpose of this role is to develop and establish the
objectives of the business in accordance with strategic
direction provided by the Board. The Managing Director will work
with the Board and the Customer (UK MoD) to deliver the Customer
s requirements for the procurement of additional vehicles and
sustainment of the UK fleet. As MD you will be the primary lead
on discussions between the Customer and the Parent
Companies/Principal Sub-contractors for the long term capability
upgrades that will extend the vehicles capabilities and service
life.
The role holds full P & L responsibility for this entity with a
major focus on operational management, including implementing
and optimising processes, structures and systems to support
ongoing development of the capability.
The MD will monitor effective business controls and manage the
relationships with operations, finance, sales and HR leaders. It
will be important to nurture an effective business relationship
between the functional area of the business and those within the
Parent Companies/Principal Sub-contractors.
Although this is a Managing Director position applications will
be considered from a range of positions. What is important is
that you have the ability to lead and work in a complex MoD
contract environment and have a good grasp of complete vehicle
projects.
Typical Job Accountabilities

Maximise the potential
opportunities for the Shareholder Companies through
developing the relationship with the Customer and Vehicle
User community.

Responsible for the full
Profit & Loss of the business growing both the top and
bottom line.

View activity reports and
financial statements to determine progress and status in
attaining objectives and constantly revise objectives and
plans in accordance with current conditions.

Prepares annual budget and
reports monthly on financial performance ensuring that all
financial reporting activities comply with compliance
controls and statutory regulation.

Demonstrate top down
accountability for health, safety and environment.

Set stretching Key
Performance Indicators (KPI's) for cost, quality, delivery
and overall customer satisfaction and continually measure
and communicate performance against targets.

Energise and engage
through effective leadership, measuring and providing
feedback on the performance of the team and each individual
periodically
Education and Experience
-
Academically strong with a
degree in Engineering, or other related degree required.
-
5/10 years of professional
Defence industry experience (preferably in the Land based,
UOR environment) and must have experience of interacting
with the MoD.

Strong operational
experience with commercial flair.

Ability to work in complex
organisational structures e.g. matrix and experience and
understanding of an international culture.

Entrepreneurial skills in
developing and extending business opportunities.

Strong people management
skills and cultural awareness.

Ability to develop
relationships internally and externally at a senior level
and be perceived as adding value to the business and its
practices.
